The Men of Saikel – DJ Skene

Music

Saikel June-171

Many people know you as DJ Hollywood Hype. What lead to the name change?

In a nut shell it’s been a long time coming, I was tired of being introduced as someone I wasn’t anymore. I felt DJ Hollywood Hype was a brand that did not represent me as a person or artist anymore. It was such a party boy brand. I haven’t had time to party for the last while – I’m too busy.  Also I don’t just DJ… I also write, compose, remix and produce music.
Word on the street is you do a lot of cycling?

This relationship with Saikel appears to be a perfect match?

I love to bike it’s by far my favorite way to commute. I feel I am so much more ready for where ever I am going when I bike there.

Do you have a mantra you live by? Who is the most inspiring person you know?

“Much love and respect” or “We are all just stardust” would probably be the words I live by. Jack Moslehi is by far the most inspiring person I know. He is a good friend and owner of numerous local businesses including Blind Tiger and 441 Main. He always puts the treatment of people and his personal relationships in the focus, as busy as he can be. I think this is something we all have trouble finding balance with.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

Theme song, that’s a tough one… how about my favourite song of all time instead? Beethoven -Moonlight Sonata

Favourite album of all time?

I would to go with Incubus – Morning View, or Benassi Bros – Phobia.

What is influencing your music at the moment, those external influences?
I would say the more influential external influence at this moment would be the season. The music I am writing in the studio right now is all piano heavy with lots of atompsherey touches.

What television show are you obessed with?
I don’t really watch tv – I do watch lots of documentaries though. I recently got curiously stream. It’s pretty much an online channel for nerds; highly recommend it.

What was the last booked you read?
“This is Your Brain on Music” by Daniel J Levitin

What’s on your bucket list?

Travel to Peru to explore the Inca Ruins
Nepal to meditate with the monks
Train under the Ice Man
Climb Kilimanjaro before its glaciers completely melt
Australia to scuba dive
Bike across Canada from coast to coast
