Reese’s Pieces Project 3.0

Saikel Studio is always looking to help members of it’s #saikelsquad

Check out this amazing daughter of one of our daytime regulars……

Starting when Reese Precourt was just 13, she decided to have a bake sale to complete volunteer hours necessary for her classes. The sale was a huge success as over $5000 was raised to help renovate and modernize Lighthouse’s dated kitchen.
Last year, once again, she hosted a bake and raised over $2000.
This year, she is hosting her third bake sale, rightfully named “Reese’s Pieces Project 3.0” on Saturday, March 18 from 9-4 pm at Sherwin Williams, 756 Pembina Hwy.

There will also be self-serve bake sales at Saikel, 2-920 Lorimer Blvd., Salon Pop, 1217 Lorette Ave. and Foodfare Lilac, 247 Lilac St.

Saikel will also be accepting baking donations starting February 27 until March 17, during business hours.
With the help of RBC, Sherwin Williams, Foodfare and many other supporters, we hope to surpass our previous goals with the help of our friends and family all over the city.

Here is a link to a video that featured Reese and premiered at We Day last November in Toronto and broadcasted across Canada on MTV Canada. It is being used to promote Canada’s 150th birthday as well as inspire youth to do more for their communities.

Kristy’s Go-To Weekend Meal!

This is one of Saikel Studio’s Instructor Kristy’s frequent go-to for weekends when she is craving one of her absolute favorite foods (pizza) but doesn’t want to throw her whole week of exercising and healthy eating off track!

As an avid pizza fanatic this is one of her favorite substitutions for a way healthier option that still tastes incredible! It honestly tastes like a deep dish pizza!

Portobello Mushroom Pizza Recipe:
(Adapted from Minimalist Baker – original recipe here:

Portobello mushrooms (whole)
Olive oil
Garlic powder
Dried oregano

Jar of Pasta (or regular tomato sauce)
Toppings of your choice (Kristy’s personal fave is thinly shaved hot Genoa salami and diced green or red peppers)
Cheese of choice (Kristy recommends a mixture of light feta or goat cheese and part skim mozzarella)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Wipe clean each mushroom and twist off the stems. (tip: you can always chop up the stem to use as a topping!) Use a spoon to scrape out the gills.
Place cleaned mushrooms on a baking sheet and lightly drizzle both sides with a little olive oil. Place with the inside of the mushroom facing up and sprinkle with garlic powder, paprika, oregano, and then bake for 5 minutes.
Once par-baked, pull mushrooms out of the oven and top with desired amount of pizza sauce, toppings, and cheese.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the veggies are mostly cooked and the cheese is bubbling. Top with chili flakes if you like some added heat!

February – Saikel for the Soul – Variety Children’s Heart Centre

This means that you get to spend the entire Heart’s Day raising money for a wonderful cause! Be sure to register for a class on February 14th and celebrate this day of love with sweet treats and sweats, and giving back to a great charity! 2017 – We are Ready For You! Goals and Resolutions from Some of your Favourite Saikel Instructors and Front Desk Staff!

“My goal is to have healthy food ready for when I need something quick (like a lunch to take to school or work), that way I won’t default to some quick unhealthy snack food.”

– Payton

“I have a goal that has been on-going for years, because there will never be a perfect “number” or “amount” or anything like that, but I am mindful of it, always…give myself enough time. Enough time for important things like friends, family, studying, or professional work, and also for the silly things like enough time to get ready! Enough time to make a healthy dinner. Stop rushing!”

– Alexa

“My goal is to bring a Saikel class team to a total of 12kJ of energy, and to have a 6-pack before my wedding (Sept 2017) …..mmmmmmmmmm the last one sounds tough!”

– Denis

“I try to set aside some time on Sunday evening for myself to prepare in different ways for the upcoming week. My goal this year is to spend that time washing and prepping all my fruits and veggies for the upcoming week. I can do it mindlessly with a glass of wine in had, but it really helps set the tone for the rest of the week – and, really saves a lot of time. I would also like to run a 4:00hr marathon. I completed a marathon last year with sub-par training which translated to a sub-par time. My goal is to put in proper training and see that translate to a time I would be proud of.”

– Brit

“I want to practice being more mindful in 2017 in all that I do. Life gets so busy with two kids and their activities that I find myself just going through the motions to get through, and not being fully aware of the great, fun things going on around me!”
– Cari
“My goal is to plan my meals ahead of time so I don’t always have to run to the grocery store for ingredients.”
– Carolyn
“I would like to participate in and complete a triathlon. I want to be able to do a human flag on a pole. I want to learn Spanish.”

– JC
“Each year I set a new health and fitness goal to both expand my knowledge in the industry and challenge myself personally. In 2017 my goal is to enter my first Manitoba Marathon to help increase my cardio capacity and push myself in an area that has always been difficult for me, running.”

– Kristy
“My goals this year are to find balance and be present.”

– Melissa

“My goal for 2017 is to run the Lululemon SeaWheeze half marathon in 2 hours or less. I also want to encourage my friends and family to become more physically active.”

– Nicole

“Along with lots of little health routine goals (more water, stretching, etc), this year I want to become a better listener!”
– Kathryn

“My 2017 New Year Resolution is to keep up with my 2016 New Year Resolution – always be learnin’ and always be explorin’! In 2016 I made a strong effort to say yes to new opportunities, learn new skills, explore new grounds (close to home and far away), and put myself in unfamiliar and sometimes uncomfortable situations. 2017 will be a year of continued personal growth #YearOfYes2017”

– Olivia

“My goal for 2017 is to both eat healthier and become more consistently active.”

– Sean

“My goal for 2017 is to work on wellness skills that will help me not stress over the little things and things I cannot change. I resolve to welcome new experiences and challenge myself even when things feel uncomfortable.”

– Jenny

AMG Merecedes-Benz Race Night

screen-shot-2016-08-24-at-6-06-27-amGet ready to start your engines! Come join us at race night powered by Mercedes Benz AMG!

In these classes you’ll test your fitness with a workout we call the ‘Saikel Fitness Ride’ and if your overly competitive you can compete against your fellow riders. Don’t worry we’ve leveled the playing field by calculating wattage per pound; simply put a 100lb female can beat the 200lb male if they are able to produce the equivalent wattage.

What to expect? The class begins with a 10 minute warm-up, followed by a 20 minute Fitness Test and finishes with a cool-down.

During the 20 minute Fitness Ride you are allowed to ride in any position. During the 20 minute ride, the only cues (other than motivation) that will be provided is what RPM range you must maintain.

The race is staged in 5 minute intervals shifting down from 90-100 rpms to 60-70 rpms

We also have stage bonuses; points will be awarded to top finishers at 3 minute mark as well as 10 minute mark. Not the fastest – don’t worry. You can also win entry ballots for selfies and random finishing places.

All ballots are entered into a draw made at the end of race night for a weekend with a free Merecedes-Benz AMG.

Call the studio to advance book and get ready to start your engines!

Next Race Night:  Dec 20th
